Do you require any license for LPG Cylinder Installation?

The design and operation of multi-cylinder installations need to follow certain specifications and guidelines. They are:

1. IS 6044 Part 1-
Code of practice for LPG storage installations (Industrial cylinder installations)
2. OISD (Oil Industry Safety Directorate) Guidelines- 162- Safety in installation and maintenance of LPG cylinder manifold

According to the above guidelines, the cylinders should be connected to the manifold system for usage and should not be left unconnected and filled. If the cylinders are connected to a manifold, they do not fall under the category of LPG Storage. Up to a limit of 8000 kg, for any installation in which there are no unconnected cylinders, a PESO license isn’t required.

Under the OISD guidelines clause 3.12, no explosives license is required until and unless all the cylinders are connected to a manifold. However, if the quantity of LPG in the unconnected cylinders exceeds 100 kg, the Godown license is to be obtained as per the IS guidelines.

So, if you’re planning to go for any cylinder installation ensuring not to have any unconnected cylinders (quantity above 100 kg) in your industrial premises, you’re good to go without the PESO license!

  1. 2. Maintaining a three-meter safety distance around the LPG installation

  1. 3. Proper cladding for the civil shed to avoid direct sunlight on cylinders

  1. 4. Proper approach road till the LPG installation for easy loading/unloading of cylinders
