What are the key safety and compliance requirements for installing industrial LPG tanks and pipelines at a factory site?

Installing industrial LPG tanks in more than just “hooking up a tanker”, it’s about balancing safety, efficiency and compliance.
Tanker & Pipeline

It comes with a maze of safety codes, distance requirements, and pressure testing that can feel overwhelming.

Here are the essential safety standards and legal must-haves to keep your site powered, compliant, and most importantly, protected.

Statutory Licensing & Approvals:

  • PESO license mandatory under Static and Mobile Pressure Vessels (Unfired) Rules, 2016 for bulk storage.
  • Prior approval of layout to be submitted to PESO detailing site plan which includes location of the tank, piping route, and nearby structures.
  • The vessel must be designed and fabricated by PESO approved manufacturer regarding pressure vessel integrity.
  • A No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the local Magistrate & Fire Department is often a prerequisite for the grant of the final license.

Layout & Safety Distances:

  • Minimum "Clearance Distances" must be maintained between the LPG tank and factory buildings, property boundaries, or sources of ignition.
  • The installation must have an all-weather motorable approach road for LPG tankers to safely load and unload.

Pipeline & Equipment Standards:

  • The installation must adhere to Oil Industry Safety Directorate (OISD) standards (OISD-144 for LPG installations).
  • All electrical fittings in the installation area must be explosion-proof and certified.
  • Consent to Establish (CTE) and Consent to Operate (CTO) are required, ensuring that environmental norms are met.
  • Tanker and pipeline should go through hydrostatic pressure test (usually at 1.5 times the design pressure) before commissioning.

Processing these legal and technical landscape of industrial LPG tanker installation can be intense, you need not navigate them alone. When you partner with SUPERGAS for LPG supply and storage, we will be partnering with you throughout the journey.

From initial site surveys and PESO-approved designs to final commissioning and ongoing safety training, we do it all, while you can focus on production.
