LPG for Aluminum Extrusion

How to design an LPG-powered metal extrusion line?

Designing an efficient LPG system requires careful, tailored planning. Key factors considered during the design process include:

  1. Production Demand: Analysing your unique consumption patterns, overall production scale, and peak-hour energy needs.
  2. Logistics & Space: Assessing the available space for a safe LPG yard and determining the required frequency of fuel deliveries.
  3. Safety Distance: Ensuring strict compliance with mandatory clearance zones and safety layouts.

This is where expert engineering makes a difference. SUPERGAS brings over 30 years of global experience in designing customized LPG solutions across more than 60 industrial applications.

Checkout the key factors to be considered for safe and efficient LPG installation sites.

Every system is engineered with absolute precision, matching your exact production flow while strictly adhering to all statutory and safety guidelines.

Safety standards for using LPG in Aluminium Extrusion

LPG is a highly efficient but pressurized fuel, maintaining rigorous safety standards. Key safety standards for a compliant extrusion plant include:

  • Statutory Compliance: The entire LPG installation must strictly follow mandatory regulatory guidelines, including PESO approvals for layout and storage.

  • Safe Clearance Zones: The LPG yard and vaporizers must be installed at precise safety distances from the extrusion furnace, shop floor, and other property boundaries.

  • Advanced Safety Devices: Pipelines must feature essential safety components, including SRVs to release excess pressure and PRVs to maintain a steady, safe fuel flow.

  • Gas Detection Systems: Continuous gas leak detectors must be installed at critical points around the furnace and valve trains to provide early warnings.

Here are a range of innovative energy saving products to help industries stay efficient, safe and environmentally friendly.

Before aluminium billets can be pushed through the extrusion die, they must be heated to a temperature between 400°C and 500°C. This preheating ensures the metal is soft enough for smooth extrusion.
Extrusion dies must be preheated to match the temperature of the incoming billet to avoid sudden thermal shock. LPG ovens offer steady, clean heat that brings the heavy steel dies to the exact required temperature.
LPG provides the intense thermal energy needed to melt aluminium, approximately 660°C. The precise control of LPG burners limits dross formation saving significant material cost.
Once extruded, aluminium profiles are relatively soft. To achieve their final structural strength, they undergo a heat-treatment process called artificial ageing. LPG-fired ageing ovens hold the profiles at a constant, uniform temperature for several hours.
